St John’s Episcopal Hospital

The commission for this new ambulatory care facility was initiated by the need to relocate out-patient care facilities from the main hospital building, as well as to consolidate behavioral health services under one roof. The new four-story and cellar building contains a 7,700 sq ft radiation/oncology, a 7,700 sq ft primary care clinic with 12 exam rooms, a 2,500 sq ft infusion treatment clinic with eight infusion stations. The project also includes a 12,000 sq ft behavioral health clinic with several large group counseling rooms and a large multi-functional space for community outreach programs and events. A separate but equal entrance and passenger elevator is provided for behavioral health clients, with an internal communicating stair provided between the two floors that house behavioral health programs to afford flexibility and efficient use of space.

Odyssey House

From an abandoned ruin Think! created a new, modern, light-filled center for substance abuse treatment and recovery. The design opened up the interior space, adding colorful and resilient finishes. It created a new multi-purpose room at the roof as well as a child-care center and medical clinic.  Funded by NYS OASAS and DASNY, the 60,000 sq ft building houses 240 men, women and their children while in residential treatment. It has proven to be a national model for what substance abuse recovery centers can be.

Mount Sinai Doctors, Williamsburg

In a city-wide effort, New York’s major hospital networks began a program to transition patients from frequent emergency room visits to more efficient and economical community-based, multi-service satellite outpatient clinics. In these clinics the emphasis is on family health and wellness, integral care, prevention and health education. This new clinic for Mount Sinai is located in the ever-evolving, increasingly affluent neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with its diverse and creative young population.

Mount Sinai engaged three ambitious surgeons to operate the clinic with a new vision for holistic healthcare delivery within a space that reflected their mission and appealed to this neighborhood’s identity. Our design strives to be warm and welcoming, crafted with natural, sustainable materials, a soothing color scheme and unexpected curving forms, in high contrast to the typical healthcare facilities we have come to expect. To date, the clinic, completed in 2015, has far exceeded projected annual patient visits.
